Sweet Beginnings

We’re Gloria and Tere, two sisters originally from Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. Our journey in the United States began in 1991, when we came for a vacation. I, Gloria, decided to stay and start a new life. Years later, in 2003, Tere also returned—this time to stay for good in Des Moines.

Like many immigrant women, we started working wherever we could. Over time, I found my place in the healthcare system, and Tere in the restaurant industry. But we always shared a dream: to start our own business, one that would let us express our culture, creativity, and love for desserts.

Today, after years of hard work and learning, Elena’s Desserts is born—a bakery with a Mexican heart, dedicated to creating authentic flavors with a homemade touch. Every dessert is a celebration of our roots, our family, and the strength of Latina women striving to move forward.
